Social EnvironmentFor my Teaching Performance Expectations (TPE) assignment, I have chosen Week 11 TPE of the week, social environment for secondary education. This TPE consists of questions to see how the teacher may create a better social learning environment. My placement teacher for a 11th and 12th grade English class does a great job executing a positive environment for students to learn in. Each student gets to choose where they would like to sit for the day, rather than forcing them to have assigned seats. The teacher is very friendly and welcomes all the students into the classroom, which makes the students feel respected. The teacher also makes full effort to get students involved in discussions on the readings. The students actively take part in the reading as they are extremely interested due to the way the teacher explains the story as well as analyzes it. The teacher also has students collaborate and work in groups to make the learning experience even better. In this collaborative environment, students can express their opinions and share ideas that other students may find useful. The teacher also fosters responsibility and independence in students through her actions. She allows students to express themselves, upholds them to high standards, as well as allows them see what class strategies works for them. For example, my placement teacher noticed that the students were having a hard day. Instead of giving them an assignment that day, she decided to have the students play Kahoot. This engaged the students as well still allowed them to learn as the Kahoot game allowed for review for the chapters they have read. My placement teacher gives her students the respect that they deserve, and in return the students do the same.
